Edinburgh weather: City set for first 'heatwave' of the year with mercury to soar to 17C

Edinburgh is set to have a 'mini heatwave' as forecasters reports temperatures will reach 17C.

Over the Easter weekend, Edinburgh has been blessed with sunny skies, but the week is expected to get colder and wetter before temperatures jump up.

From Monday April 17, the sunshine will return, according to BBC Weather and with it bringing mild temperatures of 16C, as Spring gets well under way.

On Tuesday, Edinburgh locals will wake up to a mild morning of 8C and through the way it will hit highs of 17C in the afternoon with sunny intervals.

BBC Weather also adds that Wednesday is expected to be a beautiful day with highs of 15C with sunshine forecasted throughout the morning with a slight breeze. Clouds only move in through the afternoon before clearing at around 5pm, and residents can enjoy the brighter nights.

Thursday and Friday are forecasted to be more typical for Scotland with rain, drizzle and wind before the weekend.

The Met Office has given the outlook for April 14-27 and add: "Over the weekend, unsettled weather likely becoming focussed towards the northwest, with strong winds possible here.

"The best of any dry interludes along with lighter winds predicted in the south and east. Warming up a little through the weekend to above average temperatures for most by Sunday.

"Further into the period, the trend is towards less unsettled weather more widely, with increasing drier spells. Probably feeling quite pleasant in sunshine by day, but some chilly nights."
