Edinburgh weather: Capital to see weekend heatwave with highs of 24 degrees

Just as we thought the best of the summer weather had been and gone without us even noticing, a mini heatwave is set to shine down on the capital over the weekend and into Monday and Tuesday.

As holidaymakers get set to jet off somewhere exotic to mark the start of the school holidays, having a staycation may not be the worst option of them all.

Temperatures on Monday, July 11, are set to reach highs of 24 degrees, that's according to BBC Weather. Looking closer to the present and Saturday, July 9, isn't looking too shabby either. Highs of 22 and 23 on Sunday, both with large spells of sunshine, are sure to be enough to convince dad's across the city to get the barbecue out.

On Saturday, although temperatures are set to soar, there will still be that persistent moderate breeze lingering in the air. According to the BBC, "Sunday, north-western parts will see thicker cloud with the odd patch of drizzle in places. Elsewhere will be largely sunny and dry, but north-eastern areas will see cloud build later on."

The situation looks a similar outlook for Sunday, albeit less clouds and more persistent sunshine. temperatures are yet again set to reach highs of around 22 degrees.

On Monday, that one single degree higher is set to make all the difference. In what could be one of the hottest days of the year so far in the capital, temperatures of 24 degrees during the day are set to announce the official arrival of summer, just two months later than last year.

Unlike last year, however, the restrictions around enjoying the good weather are a lot more relaxed, meaning beer gardens and public spaces all over the city are set to be a sea with locals.

The warm weather doesn't stop there, though. Heading further into the new week and on Tuesday, July 12, the temperatures are naturally set to drop off, but only by a few degrees. The BBC has it that highs of around 21 are to fend off those holiday blues just a little longer, as well as more sunshine forecasted for Wednesday.
