Edinburgh weather: BBC forecast snow in the capital as temperature plummets

Edinburgh is set to be blasted by snow next week despite having basked in glorious sun in recent days.

The BBC 14-day weather forecast predicts that temperatures are set to tumble and snow will hit the city next Wednesday, March 30.

The current sunny weather will continue on into the weekend but things will take a turn for the worse, overnight on Sunday.

The temperatures will roughly stay the same until Sunday, reaching 15° most days but by Monday it will have dipped to just 9° through the day.

However at night on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday temperatures are predicted to fall to around zero.

The BBC say that by 7pm on Wednesday evening the snow will have started falling.

Snow and hail are expected up until around midnight, but they say it will dissipate to 'light snow showers' by 10pm.

The light snow will continue through the night, lasting up until 2 am on Thursday morning.

The Met Office also say that the colder weather will start on Monday.

A spokesperson said: "Still settled for many at the start of next week but a trend to showery and colder conditions is expected to take place from the north from Monday.

"Showers will likely be focused on northern and eastern areas, potentially wintry over northern hills and at lower levels in the far northeast.

"A good deal of dry weather persisting in the south and west. Potential for strong winds in the far northeast early in the period.

"Later next week and beyond, more unsettled conditions are likely with more frequent showers or longer spells of rain for many areas.

"After a spell of below average temperatures next week, temperatures are likely to return to near average later in the period."
