Edinburgh Waverley Train Station was evacuated due to a 'fire alarm sounding' as passengers about to board trains were told to leave the station.
According to ScotRail, all lines closed temporarily following the sounding of the alarm shortly before 11am on Monday, July 10. Images from the back entrance of the busy station showed dozens of passengers waiting to be given the all-clear to re-enter.
Around 10.50am ScotRail said: "NEW: Due to the fire alarm sounding at a station at Edinburgh all lines are closed." This was followed by reaction from passengers on Twitter.

One said: "Just got evacuated out of the Waverley train station in Edinburgh. Probably a false alarm…," while another added: "About to board a train at Edinburgh Waverley Station and now the entire station is being evacuated."
It is understood that passengers have now been allowed back into the station as a spokesperson for the British Transport Police confirmed a fire alarm and added that the station is now reopening.
