Edinburgh waterfront could see hundreds of new homes as 'prime' sites hit the market

Eight new development sites that could bring hundreds more waterfront homes to Edinburgh have hit the market.

As part of a broader 3,000-home masterplan for the Western Harbour, 10.21 acres across five new development plots have the potential to deliver around 600 homes for the site.

Western Harbour boasts a range of local amenities including a David Lloyd gym, supermarkets, recreational facilities and a new primary school.

The boost of the soon to be completed Trams to Newhaven project has also given the area a boost in interest, with a vision of the route being extended in the future to incorporate the harbour.

A further three development plots are up for sale near Granton Harbour, totalling just shy of four acres of land suitable for residential and mixed-use development neighbouring Edinburgh Marina.

Access to the area could be opened up by a future tram extension in a loop along the waterfront, connecting 60 acres of former industrial land to the city centre.

As part of Forth Port's continued development of the capital's Western Harbour, the council previously granted permission in principle - with the latest plans confirming there will be 615 properties comprising studio flats, and one, two and three-bed units.

Will Scarlett from Scarlett Land and Development said: "We are incredibly excited to be bringing these eight well-recognised sites to market. The portfolio provides a rare opportunity in Edinburgh to deliver large-scale residential development across multiple tenures and we anticipate strong interest noting this potential."

Drew Lambert from Reith Lambert said: "Large-scale prime residential sites such as this are a rarity in Edinburgh; these sites are ideally placed, with an excellent range of amenities and well-connected transport links on offer."
