Edinburgh Virgin hotel: First pictures show luxury red bar and 'rooftop sanctuary'

Edinburgh's first Virgin Hotel has confirmed it will be opening in the capital this summer, with the luxury accommodation set to impress locals and tourists.

The Richard Branson owned site will be welcoming in guests from June 1, 2022, and will be offering over 200 rooms set over ten different floors.

Sharing an inside look at what can be expected from the hotel, the building will feature a bar, restaurant, and even encompasses a 19th century church that has been restored as an event venue.

Located on the corner of the Grassmarket, the hotel stretches from the Cowgate right up to the higher levels of the Old Town, with views right over the city to the castle.

The flagship restaurant will be the 'Commons Club', an eatery and bar that will act as a "modern day social club" with a plush red interior, as well as 'Eve', an all-day dining space that will also provide late night entertainment.

Completely renovating the site, developers have renovated the adjoining church, with first look images showing the new hall as an elegant new space for different events.

The building will also contain a 'rooftop sanctuary', with vistas straight over to Edinburgh Castle.

As well as the eating and drinking venues, the rooms will each copy Virgin Hotels signature look, with a bright red SMEG fridge, a huge vanity closet and an extra large walk in shower.

There will also be some luxury suites, with one located under the former bell tower of the 'restored medieval church', giving quite the atmosphere.

Speaking about the launch, James Bermingham, Chief Executive Officer of Virgin Hotels commented: “Edinburgh is such an iconic city and we’re thrilled it will be the home of the first Virgin Hotels in the UK and across Europe.

"Through dynamic contextual design and neighbourhood-centric influences the new hotel will be a cultural city hub, with a design that sustains the building’s heritage while adding a vibrant, new style to the area.”

The hotel has been developed and is owned by Flemyn and managed by Virgin Hotels.

Reservations are now being accepted for stays starting 1st June 2022 and can be made directly on the hotel’s website www.virginhotels.com/edinburgh.
