Edinburgh travellers warned as ScotRail confirms no trains to run on Christmas

Edinburgh train passengers have been warned to expect severe disruption to services over the coming days, as ScotRail confirmed no trains will run on Christmas.

With further national RMT strike action announced for December 24-27, the travel operator stated that timetables will be extremely limited.

Although a separate dispute, the industrial action will affect ScotRail services, as Network Rail Scotland signallers and maintenance staff, who are in safety-critical roles, will be on strike.

Beginning on Christmas Eve (December 24), the last trains will now depart earlier than normal, and will begin winding down from 3pm, with no services starting after 6pm.

With no trains to run on Christmas Day, the strike action also now means that no services will run on Boxing Day either.

Some services will be available on December 27, however they will begin later than usual due to signal boxes opening at different times. Normal service will then resume until the evening of December 31.

Train times will be available in Journey Planner and the ScotRail App in the coming days. Speaking about the disruption on their website, ScotRail urged passengers to "please check train times for your entire journey, including the first or/and last train times, just before you travel."
