Edinburgh tourist thanks heroic mechanics and capital police for finding his stolen bike

A tourist from the Czech Republic has heralded Edinburgh police and kind hearted capital mechanics after they helped to recover and repair his stolen motorbike.

Lukáš Vysocký, 32, had come to Scotland to tour its historic locations such as Loch Lomond, Ford William, Isle of Skye, Loch Ness and the capital Edinburgh on his green Ktm 790 adventure 2020.

But sadly his bike was stolen from outside of the hotel he was staying in at Craigleith on May 9.

Lukáš said that he had went to his hotel at around 7pm and that he had locked his handlebars before removing all of his navigation and luggage.

But he says that he regrets not using his steel cable to secure the rear wheel of the motorbike.

After a few hours chilling in his room he was notified by reception that thieves had stolen his beloved motorbike and made off with the vehicle.

“I had planned to return to my bike to attach the steel cable but instead I relaxed in my room thinking that it would be ok as it was parked right below my window.

“But I got a call from reception saying that they thought the bike had been stolen and that they had called the police.

“The police came and took my details before I went back to my room but it was very difficult to sleep as I needed my bike to get back home.

“I put out a number of posts on Facebook groups to see if anyone had seen the bike and when I woke up in the morning the police had told me that someone had found it in Drylaw.”

Lukáš said that Edinburgh police were very accommodating and organised for a patrol to take him to his bike.

He said that he was surprised to find that the motorbike was in ‘good shape’ and that the display and staff for the keys was the only part that was broken.

The main problem that Lukáš faced was starting his bike as the thieves had cut the wires.

“The police pointed me in the direction to a nearby workshop and I wheeled my bike there to see if they could help me.

“Unbelievably a man who worked there was the person who found it, they were so helpful and without hesitation gave me the tools and helped me fix my bike.

“It took five hours and I honestly cannot thank them enough for what they did - they told me that they were riders and that we always help each other.

“I thanked them afterwards and gave them some small gifts for helping me as they went above and beyond.”

Lukáš did not want to name the garage as he feared he may get them in trouble but said that he was eternally grateful for their support.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 11.20pm on Tuesday, 9 May, we received a report of a motorbike being taken from a car park in the Queensferry Road area of Edinburgh.

“Enquiries were carried out and the vehicle was traced and returned to the owner.”
