Edinburgh to see inspiring performance from Military Wives Choir this weekend

Edinburgh is set to see a performance from the Military Wives Choir this weekend as the group arrives in the capital.

Organising five events throughout the UK this year, the next show will take place in the Old Town at Greyfriars Kirkyard on Saturday, October 29.

Known for their jaw-dropping voices and heart-wrenching stories behind their loved ones careers in the military, 200 singers will perform in the event this weekend.

Starting at 7pm, the show will be led by Hilary Davan Wetton, featuring singers from Edinburgh's local choirs, alongside an ensemble of live musicians led by Sean Hargreaves, and special guest artist, soprano Laura Wright.

These concerts contain many well-known Military Wives Choirs songs, including ‘A Thousand Years’, ‘Stronger Together’, ‘Home Thoughts from Abroad’, ‘Carry Me’, and ‘Brave’, which feature on recent albums, singles and in the Military Wives film.

Each concert in the series will feature an appearance by soprano and Ambassador Laura Wright, who has had a long-standing relationship with the Military Wives Choirs.

Speaking about the Edinburgh event, Laura said: "It is hard to describe the impact that being part of an all-female ensemble can have, particularly as a Mum. Performing with and writing music for the Military Wives Choirs back in 2018 was such a pleasure—it gave me an enormous sense of warmth and made me feel so proud.

"However, after recently working closely with individual members of theMilitary Wives Choirs, I realised that many of these women live their whole lives with the same level of extreme isolation that many of us have just experienced for the very first time.

"Singing gives us emotional awareness—it allows us to recognise and express our feelings, as well as relate to the feelings of others around us. I am thoroughly delighted to be singing alongside this amazing group of women once more.”
