Edinburgh to Glasgow line to close all weekend after ScotRail train derails

A train line route between Edinburgh and Glasgow will be closed for the weekend after a carriage derailed overnight.

ScotRail have issued advice to passengers after they confirmed a train had come off of the tracks in the early hours of Saturday morning (May 7.)

With engineers working "round the clock" to repair the issue, the line including Glasgow, Bathgate and Edinburgh will be affected.

The derailment is reported to have occurred between Coatbridge Sunnyside and Airdrie, North Lanarkshire, with the "operational issue" impacting a number of routes.

The Record reports carriage was not in service at the time and there were no recorded injuries.

David Simpson, ScotRail Service Delivery Director, said: “We’re sorry to customers who are experiencing disruption to their journey as a result of this incident.

“Engineers are on site and working round the clock to get the train back on the tracks and return services to normal as quickly as possible, however, we’re expecting some disruption for the remainder of the weekend.

“Customers should check their journey on our website, mobile app, and through our social media channels for the latest information."
