Edinburgh street volunteers treat woman with head injury and male 'found alone'

Edinburgh street volunteers rushed to aid a female who had sustained a head injury during a busy Friday evening in the capital.

Street Assist, who work closely with Police Scotland, help ease the pressure on the emergency services by providing assistance and first aid to people during the evening on the busier days of the weeks.

The team deal with all sorts of incidents such as those who have taken drugs or excessive amounts of alcohol, those in need of medical assistance and making sure revellers make it home safely.

On Friday night, the team were out in full force and took to social media to report their hard work for the evening, saying they had 15 interactions including a female who sustained a head injury, a male who had taken drugs and another young male who was found alone.

They also dealt with two assaults, providing first aid for minor injuries.

The team said: "Our teams have now been stood down and are returning home for a well earned sleep. Throughout the shift we had 15 interactions, including dealing with a female who'd sustained a head injury, a male who had taken drugs and a young male who was found alone in need of assistance.

We dealt with two assaults, providing first aid for minor injuries. Three referrals were made from our partners Edinburgh Police Division and we took three others home to ensure they were safe. We'll be back out again tonight."

Street Assist had 34 volunteers patrolling the streets on Friday evening, with a total of seven teams. They are vocal about the work they provide and always leave their number for those in need of assistance to contact them.
