The Edinburgh to Glasgow train line has been recreated in a game simulation for enthusiasts - including stops at Waverley and Haymarket.
Train Sim World 3 gives gamers the virtual experience of driving trains all over the world and now they can immerse themselves in the busiest train route in Scotland between the two biggest cities. The announcement of the extra content for the game will be available on January 26 and has attracted much interest from transport enthusiasts and gamers.
One excited mum posted on Twitter: “My son hasn’t stopped talking about this since he got home from school – the countdown to launch has begun.” Train fans will be able to operate the ScotRail 385 EMU Express service between Scotland’s two biggest cities.

Computer gamers will be able to marvel at the detail of Edinburgh and Glasgow including the inclusion of capital suburbs and the famous castle looming overhead.
The developers, Dovetail Games alongside, Rivet Games who are situated in Stirling have experience in producing train simulator games including Birmingham, West Cornwall and the Great Western expansion packs.
An Edinburgh transport enthusiast said: “It was a great surprise to find out my local train line would be reproduced for Train Sim World 3.”
They continued: “Having Travelled on the line on several occasions across the last few years, being able to put myself in the driver’s seat and experience the line from a new perspective is something I’ve wanted for a very long time.”
“Being able to explore the scenic route virtually from the comfort of my home will be fantastic. I’m certainly looking forward to the release.”
Phil Campbell, ScotRail Head of Customer Operations, said: "It’s great to see our Class 385 fleet and the Glasgow – Edinburgh mainline come to life in Train Sim World 3, following the successful addition of our Cathcart Line and former Class 314 fleet in the previous version of the game.
“We can't wait to see what the players think as they take a virtual trip between Scotland’s two biggest cities on the newest trains in the ScotRail fleet."
The ScotRail Express: Edinburgh – Glasgow expansion for Train Sim World 3 arrives on January 26 2023 and is available for all modern gaming consoles including Xbox, PlayStation, Epic Game Store and Steam.
