ScotRail passengers are set to be hit with "steep" fare rises as opposition politicians called the hike "bleak news".
The nationalised train operator will be hiking up prices by 4.8 per cent from Monday, June 3.
This would result in an anytime day return between Glasgow Queen Street to Edinburgh Waverley to jump from £27.60 to £28.90. Meanwhile, an off-peak return will rise from £14.20 to £14.90.
