Edinburgh’s unwanted properties that won’t budge - but could be your dream home

If you’ve been looking to get on the property ladder in Edinburgh, you’ll know how difficult it can be to find the right house.

While it seems properties are flying off the market as quickly as they join it, that’s not always the case. A study from home.co.uk revealed that as of January 2023, across all property types in Edinburgh the average time it takes for a house to be sold is 115 days - although some have been for sale for much longer than this.

However some of Edinburgh’s homes have been on the market for much longer, whether that be due to age constraints, price tag, or placement. Thanks to property websites Rightmove and Zoopla, we’ve found some of the properties in the city just don’t want to budge.

If you’re wondering where these mystery homes are, look no further. We’ve put together some of the property anomalies below.

Gorgie Road, Gorgie

Price: £535,000

First listed: April 24, 2021

Springwell, a residential development from AMA, was completed in August 2020. One property, a three bedroom flat spread over two levels, is yet to sell.

Sitting in an established walled ground on the intersection of Gorgie Road and Ardmillan Terrace, the former Springwell Hospital is made up of two impressive Victorian buildings, both dating back to the late 1800s. The historic building was restored and converted, with ‘stunning’ contemporary additions.

Polwarth Crescent, Polwarth

Nantwich Drive, Craigentinny

As we have previously reported, a property on Nantwich Drive joined the market in 2019 - and remains there today.

To look at the home, you would be forgiven for thinking it would be snapped up pretty quickly. It boasts four spacious bedrooms and a large rear garden.

In terms of location, Craigentinny sits not too far from the city centre and minutes from Meadowbank. Describing the home, Rightmove said: "The property is brought to the market in good condition and briefly, consists of an entrance hall with storage, an extensive rear facing lounge with electric fire and dining area featuring sliding doors to a large garden.”
