Owners of the Grosvenor Hotel have announced that they will close temporarily as they undergo a multimillion pound redevelopment.

Recent TripAdvisor reviews of the Edinburgh establishment have highlighted the need for a renovation, with one person saying: “The issue is that the place is just tired. The carpet in our room was very dirty, and the windows were the same. The general cleanliness of the room just wasn't up to scratch.

“The place has an air of a place that needs some good money spent on it to bring back the character of the lovely old building it is.”

Many Edinburgh locals were pleased to hear the news of the redevelopment of the iconic hotel, as they posted the announcement to Facebook. One said: “Can’t wait to see the updates and looking forward to a visit when it’s finished, hopefully in time for our anniversary.”

The details of the refurbishment and pictures of its progress have not yet been announced but the hotel has told eager locals to follow along as they promise to update people on the work.

Posting on social media, the hotel said: “Exciting News! Edinburgh Grosvenor will be closing its doors on May 2nd 2022. We are delighted to announce that we will be undergoing a multi-million-pound redevelopment. Some of Edinburgh Grosvenor popular features may remain, however much of the interior and décor will be changed to match our new vision.

“We will keep everyone updated on the progress, be sure to follow us on social media.”
