As the cost of living continues to take its toll, with many people trying to keep their bills and spending as low as possible. And fuel can be one of the biggest outgoings for households.
Petrol around Edinburgh can be expensive, but thankfully research from Macklin Motors analysed the cheapest unleaded petrol and diesel prices within five miles of the Scottish capital.
Using data from Petrol Prices, the cheapest petrol stations in the capital were revealed, with Costco at Loanhead topping the list.

Costco Loanhead is located on the outskirts of the city centre, offering fuel at 138.9p per litre and 159.9p per litre for unleaded petrol and diesel, respectively. There are still options for affordable fuel for those without a paid Costco membership.
For petrol cars, the ASDAs at Chesser, Leith, and Straiton offer cheap fuel, all at 147.7p per litre. Morrisons Gyle also provides cheap petrol at 147.7p per litre.

For motorists who do not typically drive past any of these cheaper petrol locations, the research also looked at which brands offer the best average petrol prices in Edinburgh.
Naturally, Costco topped the list of cheap petrol brands, with ASDA, Tesco, Morrisons, Gulf, and Sainsbury’s rounding out the top five cheapest options.
In general, the data shows that Edinburgh motorists should stick to supermarket brands, as they offer the cheapest prices on average. For diesel cars, the cheapest fuel prices outside of Costco Loanhead are found at Gulf Edinburgh at 169.9p per litre.
The ASDAs at Chesser and Straiton, as well as Morrisons Gyle, also offer cheap diesel, priced at 170.7p per litre.
More generally, the best deals on diesel in Edinburgh can be found at Costco, Gulf, and ASDA, with these fuel brands offering prices of 159.9p, 169.9p, and 170.7p per litre, respectively.

“You can also save money on fuel by tweaking your driving habits. Avoiding harsh acceleration, maintaining tyre pressure, and turning off the AC are just a few examples of how you can become more fuel efficient.
“By minimising any stress about fuel costs or consumption, you can get back to enjoying the open road.”
