Edinburgh's best curry takeaway named as 'hidden gem' neighbourhood eatery in The Inch

Despite our best efforts to maintain the diet, sometimes we just can't resist a good takeaway.

Especially when it comes to the weekend, after five hard days of work, we can often struggle to muster the energy to cook up a meal in the kitchen, forcing our fingers towards our UberEats, Deliveroo and Just Eat apps.

Pizzas, burgers and fast food are likely to be on favourites list, but surely the most ubiquitous takeaway in Scotland is a curry.

And, celebrating success after being crowned as serving the best takeaway curry in the capital is a local neighbourhood eatery in The Inch - which never fails to score rave reviews.

Around 150 representatives of the best takeaways in Scotland gathered at Glasgow's Marriott Hotel on Monday for the annual Scottish Takeaway Awards, which 'provide a great opportunity to showcase those who performed well over the past year and are considered the best choice by the public.'

And scooping the title of Curry Takeaway of the Year South East Scotland was Edinburgh's Bell Bottom, based on Walter Scott Avenue.

Self described as a vibrant Indian street food takeaway, serving classic 80s and 90s curries, they're also popular for their veggie and vegan dishes.

The owners have already taken to social media to thank customers following the award, while they've since announced their nomination in this year's UK-wide Asian Restaurant and Takeaway Awards (ARTA).

They said: "Thrilled to be the winner of Best Curry Takeaway of the Year 2022 at the Scottish Takeaway Awards. We would like to thank all our loyal customers and the hardworking staff who have been there for us through thick and thin."

People have been raving about the place for quite some time. One recent review says: "We’ve been looking for a decent Indian takeaway for so long and now we’ve found it. Our food was piping hot and delivered when specified. Everything was delicious and I would highly recommend it to anyone."

Another, who described Bell Bottom as a 'hidden gem', added: "We have ordered from here twice now and were so impressed each time!

"The food is always delicious and bright, great variation on a standard 'curry' menu without the usual city high prices. Can't wait for the next time."

Congratulations to the team at Bell Bottom - it certainly sounds like the award is well-deserved! To find out more about the top takeaway, you can visit them on Facebook here.

A Spokesperson for the Scottish Takeaway Awards said: “Although in our second year, we are honoured by the fantastic response we have had from the public who was so keen to vote for their favourite takeaways.

“This industry has grown massively over the past years and we aimed to seek out, reward and thank those who have managed to make a real difference by serving fantastic food, using the best of ingredients.

“The winners are an outstanding example of excellence whose dedication to be the best has made them stand out among the rest.

“We would like to congratulate all finalists and winners for their amazing achievements.”
