Edinburgh road closed in early morning crash as emergency crews race to scene

Emergency services have closed off a large section of road heading out of Edinburgh following a road traffic collision.

Police and other emergency crews had raced to the incident on the outskirts of Balerno on Saturday morning (April 16).

Officers have confirmed that the crash involved one vehicle on the A70, with the road heading out between Balerno and Kirknewton remaining closed.

Speaking just before 11am, police stated that emergency services remain at the scene, with the condition of those travelling in the vehicle currently unknown.

A road closure is in place on Lanark Road West, with drivers hoping to use the road encouraged to take an alternative route.

Police Scotland said: "We were called around 7.05am to a report of a one car crash on the A70, Kirknewton, Balerno.

"Emergency services are in attendance and the road is currently closed."
