Edinburgh residents have woken up to snow across the capital as the Met Office yellow weather warning for snow and ice has been brought forward.
Starting to fall just before 8am on Saturday, several centimetres of snow has already lain on the streets of Edinburgh as a yellow weather warning is now in place until 12pm on Sunday, December 11.
The Met Office predicts snow and ice making travelling across the central belt difficult throughout Saturday and into Sunday morning. They also warned locals to expect delays on the roads and to public transport services.

As well as the white stuff, a warning has been issued for icy conditions on roads and footpaths with the council's gritters expected to be out in full force as temperatures have dropped to below minus in recent days.
Pictures shared on social media on Saturday morning show the capital in one of its most beautiful surroundings. However, the snow is expected to be short lived as forecasters predict sunny spells throughout the late morning and early afternoon.
The Met Office says: "Early wintry showers around Portpatrick then a mainly dry day with sunny spells. Wintry showers spreading in to Lothian towards evening, some moderate falls high ground. Maximum temperature 4 °C."
As for Saturday evening: "Wintry showers soon spread from the Lothians to the Southern Uplands from the evening with some moderate falls to high ground. Clear periods away from the showers. Cold, widespread frost. Minimum temperature -7 °C."
The snowy conditions and ice will make travelling difficult throughout Edinburgh and the surrounding areas during the weekend. This will make it tricky for Christmas shoppers heading into the capital for some festive retail therapy.
