Leith locals were shocked after reports of a loud 'boom' was heard on Monday morning.
Residents took to social media to share their confusion, with multiple reports of 'homes shaking' and 'loud bangs' in the Leith area. Others reported sirens from emergency services in the area.
One person wrote on Twitter: “What the hell was that huge bang in Leith? Our flat fully shook.” In the comments of that post, people said they “felt the shock wave before I heard it” and that it may have come from the docks.
The fire brigade confirmed to Edinburgh Live they attended a fire in a piece of machinery.

Another said: “Sounded like something just blew up in Leith. Anyone else hear or feel that?
“Something went boom Hope everyone is ok. I was smoking at the window. I just about hit the deck like a dafty.”
While someone else said: “The shockwave / explosion popped my ears. I thought a bomb was going off. Unreal”
We spoke to one local who said: "There was just a Big Bang followed by a cloud of white dust. The buildings rattled a bit during the bang."
The exact nature of what has happened or where is not currently clear as multiple conflicting reports from locals come in. One person on Salamander Street in Leith claimed that their “whole development shook” while others claim that it came from near the port.
However, people report seeing fire engines in the area going down Salamander Street and Seafield Road.
An SFRS spokeswoman said: "There was a call at 11.27am to Salamander Street but we've been and gone from the incident. It was a small fire in a metal crushing machine.
"Two crews and up to ten firefighters from McDonald Road were dispatched and left the scene at 11.35am."
We will bring you more on this breaking news incident as we get it.
