Four Guinea pigs were dumped on the doorstep of a resident in Edinburgh on Monday prompting an appeal from the Scottish SPCA.
The four furry friends were abandoned on Newhaven Road by their owner before one resident in the area opened their front door and revealed what was inside the box.
Scottish SPCA inspector June Chalcroft said the box contained straw, food and a rather redundant note saying not to move it upside down or side to side.

She added: "The caller had the box delivered to them but it’s unknown who left it or when and there was no address on it for delivery or return. The box had some instructions on it to not turn it upside down or sideways but nothing else.
"The box contained four young Guinea pigs, straw and food. The Guinea pigs are now in the care of one of our animal rescue and rehoming centres, where they will receive the care they need.
"If anyone recognises these animals, please contact our confidential animal helpline on 03000 999 999."
