Edinburgh pub owner plans to convert West End offices into luxury apartments

New plans to convert a number of offices into luxury flats are currently being considered by the Edinburgh City Council planning department.

The proposed development is being organised by Signature Pubs, who own a host of popular Edinburgh pubs. They are moving their offices from their current location in the West End to Albyn Place in the New Town.

The move means that a lot of space will open up in the sought after West End and they are planning to convert this space into luxury apartments to be run by their hotels division, The Rutland Hotel and Luxury Apartments. The proposal would involve various alterations to the B listed town house but would allow for three apartment hotel units.

The site itself is within the Edinburgh World Heritage Site and the Conservation area. The south-east facing town house even has a walled garden, basement level space and another two floors above ground level.

The developers have notified nearby neighbours who would be affected by the proposed work and the council are currently welcoming public comments on the development. The last day to submit comments is Friday, August 26.

The extensive alterations to the house will be across every floor of the building. In the basement, the existing bathroom will be turned into an en-suite for one of the apartments, the other bathroom will be converted into a bedroom with single bunk beds and the basement will be separated from the above ground floor with a new wall.

On the ground floor, a new kitchen and sitting room will be added and the layout of the floor will be altered to accommodate the new apartment. The same is true of the first and second floors, to allow for yet more apartments to be added to the two story town house.

In order to comply with safety measures, new rails will be added to the rear windows on the first and second floors.
