Finding a property no matter where you're looking will set you back quiet a bit, if you haven't discovered already.

Whether it's in the capital itself or just outside, prices are sky rocketing although there are reports that the booming housing market is settling down now.

So looking at the cottage and comparing it against a flat in the capital, here's what we found.

Scottish Island cottage, Isle of Skye

If you're after a small cottage on the Isle of Skye, now is your chance to grab it whilst you can as whilst it may need a bit of updating on the inside, it won't take much to show the cottage some love and bring it to life making it the perfect space to unwind.

The traditional stone built former croft house, which is on the market for offers over £90,000, is set in a garden ground extending to 0.3 acre or thereby - although this will need to be confirmed by the Title Deed.

The small property is made up of a workshop and shower room, a storage room, a living area as well as the main bedroom area located in between the living room and workshop.

Advertising on Zoopla, The Skye Property Centre adds: "Whilst the property is currently divided into a number of rooms, any upgrading works will allow the flexibility for these to be reconfigured.

It needs updated on the inside. (Zoopla.)

"Whilst it benefits from mains electricity, there is no longer a water supply to the property. This was disconnected some time ago but that it may be possible for this to be reconnected. It will be the responsibility of the purchaser to arrange for any such connection and the installation of a septic tank/treatment system.

"Tigh Beag sits in a generous plot from which there are views across Loch Snizort towards Aird Bernisdale and Treaslane towards the Cuillins in the distance. It may be possible to use the plot as a house site and build a new house to take advantage of the views, subject to any necessary planning consents.

"The site is bounded to one two sides by a dry stone wall and there are the remains of an old stone byre."

Boating about its prime location they add: "Kingsburgh is a traditional scattered crofting community located only a few miles south of Uig, on the Trotternish Peninsula in the north east area of Skye.

"Whilst there are no amenities in Kingsbugh itself, Uig offers a number of facilities including a post office/general store/bakery, hotels, restaurants, petrol station, primary school, local pottery and brewery – producer of the Red and Black Cuillin ales, amongst others. A more extensive range of facilities including secondary school, swimming pool, community library, shops, hotels and banks are available in Portree. Uig is also the ferry port for the Outer Isles ferry."

One bed Edinburgh flat, Trafalgar Street

Looking for a flat in the city can be tricky however looking at one bed flats around the same price as the cottage, we found one located on Trafalgar Street just off Ferry Road.

The one bed flat currently 'offers over' £95,000 and is cash buy only.

The flat has an open plan living. dining and kitchen space. (Rightmove.)

This one-bedroom and one bathroom flat is situated on the ground floor of a tenement building within walking distance of the Shore and Water of Leith and according to Rightmove, is said to "represent an excellent opportunity for either a first-time buyer or a shrewd investor."

The accommodation comprises, open plan living area with a kitchen that is fitted with wall and base units as well as co-ordinating worktops, and a tiled splashback. It also has a gas hob, integrated oven and extractor fan complete this space.

In addition to the open-plan living space, the flat features a single bedroom with a built-in storage space and shower room with shower enclosure with electric shower, WC, and sink.

It has one bedroom. (Rightmove.)

Leith is the iconic, cosmopolitan, and very popular port area of Edinburgh and it is a thriving part of the city. The area is one of the most sough-after places to live, and we can't blame people for wanting to move in with the flat itself located near essential stores such as Tesco and local restaurants and cafés.
