Edinburgh police shut down major city bridge amid ongoing emergency incident

Emergency services in Edinburgh have raced to city centre after an incident occurred on Dean Bridge on Wednesday (April 27.)

The road heading over the major city bridge is reported to have been closed since around 10am, with drivers warned to avoid the area and take necessary diversions.

Police have closed the bridge on either side, with the current cordon stretching back to Queensferry Road as a result of ongoing incident.

A stretch of the Water of Leith footpath directly underneath Dean Bridge has also been reportedly closed.

It is currently unclear if there have been any injuries or casualties as a result of the incident.

Lothian Buses have also issued advice to passengers hoping to have used services travelling across Dean Bridge and Queensferry Road, with the 19, 36, 37, 41, 43, 47 and 113 re-routed.

An update from the travel provider said:

"Due to a road closure buses are unable to serve Dean Bridge and part of Queensferry Road and are instead diverted via Drumsheugh Gardens, Chester Street, Douglas Gardens, Belford Road and Queensferry Terrace in both directions until further notice."

Traffic currently coming northbound towards Dean Bridge is being diverted along Randolph Crescent, with motorists coming down from Shandwick place towards Orchard Brae also diverted along Randolph Crescent.

Edinburgh Live contacted Police Scotland for comment.
