Edinburgh Police were out on a cycle path today, Saturday 23 April, in the North of Edinburgh having a look out for e-scooters that are illegal to use in public spaces.
A lot has been made recently of the use of e-scooters after the ownership of the vehicles ballooned over the last couple of years.
Two officers were on patrol with their red police dirt bikes as they monitored the popular cycle path that connects much of the capital.
In an image shared on the Edinburgh Police Twitter feed, an officer can be seen in a high vis police vest and wearing a white helmet next to the parked up motorbikes.
The post read: “Officers out on the cyclepath today keeping people safe. Please be aware the use of EScooters is illegal in public places including the walkways. #NorthEdinburgh #KeepingPeopleSafe”
One Twitter user responded to the post by saying: “An EScooter went past us on the cycle path earlier and I said to my friend that I thought they were illegal. Interesting to know I was right. There’s a lot of them zooming around Edinburgh at the moment unfortunately.”
Another replied: “But why are they? Legal in many other areas of the UK.”
Whilst another said: “So how many people have been KSI by illegal use of E-scooters in the last year around Edinburgh. Evidence-based policing?”
