Edinburgh police issue update after 'stabbing' in residential street

Officers have issued an update following an incident that occurred in a residential street in Edinburgh on Tuesday afternoon.

Police and the ambulance service scrambled to Albert Street at around 2.20pm following reports of a seriously injured man.

The street was closed off for two hours while detectives investigated the scene and a man was rushed to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.

Police Scotland have now confirmed that there is 'no threat to the wider public' as they launch an investigation.

They are urging anyone with information to get in touch.

According to an eyewitness, there are police from "top to bottom" on Easter Road on Tuesday afternoon.

They told Edinburgh Live : "There is a massive police presence on Albert Street. They were flying through Easter Road just ten minutes ago."

The witness added: "I overheard the word 'stabbing' on the police radio and I asked one of the policemen there, I think he was an inspector, and he said it was a stabbing."

Another person said: “I just looked out of my window and saw the police cars and tape outside. Not sure what happened but looks very serious.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 2.20pm on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, officers were called to a report of a 30-year-old man found seriously injured on Albert Street in Edinburgh.

“The man was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

“Officers remain at the scene and there is no threat to the wider public.

“Anyone with any information that could assist should contact police via 101, quoting incident number 1853 of 11 July.”

A spokesperson from the Scottish Ambulance Service said: “We received a call today at 2.22pm to attend an incident on Albert Street in Edinburgh.

"We dispatched one ambulance and a 3RU unit to the scene. We transported one male patient to New Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.”
