Parents at the school are becoming more worried about dangerous drivers speeding past and parking on pavements forcing young children to cross on the busy main road.
Local Councillor for the area Scott Arthur has praised the emergency services for their work but says that the measures shouldn't be needed.
Speaking to Edinburgh Live, transport convener Scott Arthur said: "Parents at Bonaly Primary School are becoming increasingly concerned about antisocial parking outside the school putting their children at risk.
"I am grateful that the local police listened and acted promptly. There are issues like this at schools right across my Ward."
He continued: "I would urge parents only to drive their kids to school if it's absolutely essential, and to park responsibly when doing so."
Many parents and local residents weighed in on the news with many airing their concerns for the kids' safety with some flagging that it's a problem at other schools across the city too.
Heather Campbell said: "At Oxgangs primary they actually park on the double lines where lollipop lady is trying to take kids across the road.
"I was crossing the other week and a car started to reverse and it hit the back of my hand, as they obviously hadn't looked that lollipop was out or checked mirrors to see what was behind. That could have been a child."

David Glasgow said: "Every school day on Lauriston Place parents park right along both sides outside the school.
"They sit there for well over half an hour. They always park in the taxi rank blocking it completely. I have not seen traffic wardens there for years during the problem times.
"It is as though they don't want to deal with it. Perhaps a police presence would be a good idea. The amount of illegally parked cars cause problems for traffic on the road."
While Monica Scally said: "Seriously, this is what our police are doing!? Is that not a job for a traffic warden, hear all the time of folk waiting four days minimum for police callouts, it's an absolute joke."
