Edinburgh petrol station to be demolished and re-built with new hot food takeaway

A BP petrol station on a major Edinburgh road is to be demolished and re-built including the removal of the main kiosk, fuel pumps and an adjacent building.

The fuel station, on Ferry Road, has been earmarked for an upgrade with the main kiosk, which currently facilitates a Londis and Costa Coffee takeaway machine, being replaced by a larger building.

Six car parking bays will also be allocated, as well as several EV charging points. An improved 'food-to-go' servery will be located in the larger kiosk with frozen and chilled food brought to be reheated and cooked on-site.

New jet wash facilities will be situated in the south of the site adjacent to the new kiosk building. Each bay will feature a glazed enclosure, with one featuring a covered canopy. The original jet wash system will be removed.

The petrol filling station canopy will also be removed and replaced in a slightly different location on the forecourt. The canopy will be fitted with 60 solar panels that will feed into the electrical system to power the site.

New petrol pumps will be installed in a slightly repositioned location than as at present beneath the new canopy. The total number of pumps will also be reduced from eight to six.

The applicant, Motor Fuel Ltd, has submitted the extensive plans to the City of Edinburgh Council to consider, noting that the proposed demolition would take place in a conservation area.

A planning statement adds: "There will be soft landscaping proposed on the site to the northern boundary, adjacent to the access point and to the western boundary. A pedestrian route will be established along the west side of the forecourt to provide a safe delineated walking route between Ferry Road and the kiosk building."
