A group of friends have told how four of their party were struck down with what they believe was food poisoning after trip to a city centre eatery.
The party of six headed to traditional oyster bar Cafe Royal on West Register Street on December 29 for a pre-Hogmanay treat - only for four of them to be hit with symptoms over the following days. The pals reported the matter to the City of Edinburgh Council's environmental health team prompting an investigation by officers.
Edinburgh Live understands that inspectors discovered mussels were being washed in a sink supposed to be specifically used for oysters on their visit, But Cafe Royal claimed no oysters were in the venue on that day and proper precautions were taken.
