Set over two levels and known for its dirt cheap cocktails and fantastically cheesy tunes, Siglo on the Cowgate was up there with the most popular nightclubs in the capital for well over a decade.
Barely a weekend went by in the 2000s when the Old Town hot spot wasn't absolutely rammed with sozzled revellers. But it wasn't just the regular karaoke nights that had people flocking back.
Slap bang in the middle of the Siglo dancefloor was a feature you'd normally expect to see at one of the risqué establishments in Edinburgh's infamous 'pubic triangle': a dancing pole.

But the pole wasn't there for any talentless drunken daftie to birl about like a hyperactive infant and cause himself a head injury. Anyone who tried that would be swiftly ejected by the bouncers (trust us).
Nope, to give it big licks on the dancing pole without fear of being booted out, you had to enter one of the amateur pole dancing contests. These very quickly became the stuff of legend and set Siglo apart from Old Town rivals Opium, Cab Vol and Hive.
Much hilarity ensued from the thrilling comps, with a chorus of whoops and cheers reserved for those special clubbers who could work the pole like a ballet-dancing ninja.

Sure, Siglo could get a bit boisterous at times, and if throwing shapes to god awful chart music on a dancefloor filled with rowdy hen and stag parties wasn't your thing then it was a place best avoided, but there really was nowhere else quite like it in the capital back in the day.
Unfortunately, all good things must eventually come to an end. Siglo closed its doors for the last time in 2011. The nightclub and bar survives now only in the hazy memories of ageing clubbers and the odd Yelp review - many of which make for hilarious reading. Naturally, not everyone who visited Siglo was a fan.
Writing in 2009, Orly M from Massachussetts recalled the good times at Siglo during their student years.
They said: "Delightfully sketchy. I don't think I would enjoy it now in my old age, but this was the site of a lot of good times
"This place had some ridiculous pole dancing contests. It also has the illustrious honour of being the Cowgate club that I threw up in front of on at least one occasion. I will always cherish it for that reason."
Cheryl C. from London said: "Siglo has a pole on the dance floor, and usually that in itself would surround the place in a shining light of dancing opportunity and amazingness that would mesmerise me and take my concentration away from the rest of the bar/nightclub.
"This decoy, unfortunately, can only last for so long, and as the pole dancing dies down, and the trance wears off."
Another reviewer wrote: "In my early uni days, my friends and I regularly visited Siglo, especially on Wednesdays to take advantage of the half price cocktails. The strawberry dacquiris were delicious!
"If what you're looking for is hen/stag party central, a busy bar and the odd pole dancing competition then you've come to the right place. For everyone else, I'd steer clear."
Sara C added: "I arrived in Edinburgh young, free, single and in the mood to get my drink/party on.
"So, regrettably, I've been here a few times. From random lads starting fights with me to girls who thought gold bikinis were appropriate attire for the Edinburgh winter...never again...I hope."
