Edinburgh NHS nurse says her holiday was 'ruined' after Ed Sheeran tickets cancelled

An Edinburgh NHS worker has said that her holiday was "ruined" when tickets to see Ed Sheeran at Hampden were cancelled the night before the gig.

Emergency service staff who received tickets to the highly-anticipated gig in Glasgow were ultimately left with nothing as the organisers, AEG Presents, withdrew a large section of allocated tickets at the last minute.

The company has since apologised for the mishap and said that those who were left without will receive free tickets the next time the singer returns to Scotland.

However, for this particular Edinburgh woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, her holiday was "wasted" after she booked annual leave from work to take the trip through to Glasgow with her son.

She received an email, through Concerts for Carers, saying that it has come to their attention that there are no longer tickets available for the performance on Thursday.

The woman, who received the email on Wednesday night, June 15, the night before the gig, said: "Not only did they cancel the tickets, they took £4.50 from all of us who won the ballot and gave it to charity, without asking.

"My tickets were for Thursday and they essentially just got cancelled point-blank. It was through Concerts for Carers and they sent me an email saying I'd won the ballot for tickets and charged me £4.50 to my registered card.

"I then received the email cancelling them. I asked why and they simply responded: 'We are sorry about Ed'. Blue Light also cancelled tickets but some still got authorised.

"It's so annoying as I had booked annual leave from work, it's a wasted holiday. I went down on Thursday to try and get some tickets but they were all sold out."

In a statement, AEG Presents said the issue came from an over-subscription of complimentary tickets.

The email sent to the NHS nurse, seen by Edinburgh Live, read: "Sadly it has come to our attention that there are no longer any tickets for Ed Sheeran remaining for his shows this week.

"You were one of our winners and your £4.50 has gone to supporting our non-profit charity helping us continue our work securing more tickets for NHS and paid carers up and down the country.

"If you had not received any tickets and would like a refund instead, please get in touch and we will be with you shortly. We understand and share your disappointment but thank you for your support."

As reported by STV News, a spokesperson for AEG Presents said “Unforeseen logistical circumstances have unfortunately resulted in an oversubscription to a complimentary allocation of tickets for tonight’s show.

“This has meant some recipients have unfortunately had their tickets cancelled. We will ensure that those affected will be invited next time Ed plays in Scotland.

“Our customer relations team is currently dealing with all customers who’ve been affected, and we apologise for the inconvenience caused.”

Concerts for Carers has also been contacted for comment.
