Edinburgh New Town set for high end jewellery shop on George Street

A high end jewellery store is set to join George Street, replacing a popular seller.

Astrid & Miyu, who launched in 2011, will be moving into 53 George Street. The Cambridge Satchel Company will be packing up and leaving, and it’s unclear if another Edinburgh unit has been found for the bag sellers.

The jewellery spot already have stores in London, Manchester, Leeds and New York. As well as jewellery, some of their outlets offer piercing, welding, tattoo and engraving services.

The brand describe themselves on their website: “Since launch in 2011, we have gain a cult status among fashion insiders in England.

“We have received much love from the fashion editors, having been featured in Marie Claire, Grazia, Stylist, Observer, Telegraph, Brides, You & Your Wedding, to name a few. We design high quality, unique yet wearable and beautiful pieces.”

Inspired by local sellers in Seoul, founder Connie Nam wanted to recreate the feeling of purchasing quirky jewellery spontaneously at a market. Describing how the company came to be, their website continues: “Connie spent much of her life travelling and living in different countries.

“Anytime she travelled she would always pick something up from local markets. Her purchases were always spontaneous and serendipitous.

“However, when she wanted to purchase with intent for family or friends she struggled to find a go-to brand. She wanted to offer products that were full of sentiment and innovative in design, together with an experience that was personal and engaging.

“A decade later, Astrid & Miyu is internationally celebrated as being more than a jewellery brand.

Astrid & Miyu uses modern methods such as 3D printing in crafting their durable studs and necklaces. After opening several international stores earlier this year, it’s likely that the jeweller will prove popular here in the Scottish capital.

More information on Astrid & Miyu, and their full collection, can be found here.
