Edinburgh road users have been warned of disruption with major Scottish Water works expected to last for four months.

Scottish Water is planning to carry out essential works to replace some water mains and this will lead to temporary traffic lights being in operation

We will be replacing approximately 700 meters of pipe along Main Street and Newmains Road.

These new pipes will reduce the risk of bursts and interruptions to customers supplies.

The work will be completed in two phases to minimise disruption to road users, homeowners and businesses.

Phase one will begin tomorrow (February 28).

Scottish Water will be replacing approximately 280 meters of pipe along Main Street in Kirkliston to the junction of Manse Road.

This work will take around 8 weeks to complete.

We will start at the crossroads with Main Street, Queensferry Road and Station Road. Once this is complete, we will then move on to the junction with Main Street and Manse Road.

Main Street will remain open to road users however there will be temporary traffic lights set up for the duration of these works. These will be manually controlled during peak times.

During the second phase, we will replace around 415 meters of pipe in Newmains Road. This is estimated to start in April, once phase one has been completed and will take around 7 weeks. Further information will be provided on this before the second phase begins.

We recognise that this is a busy section of road which has a number of businesses along and near it. We will work to minimise disruption to road users, residents and businesses. Extra signage stating that local businesses remain open will be put up.

Edinburgh Live will bring you all the latest traffic and travel updates throughout the week.
