An Edinburgh city centre road closure reportedly left motorists queueing for 'over an hour' to move just several hundred metres.
As part of the final adjustments to a section of the Trams to Newhaven project at the top of Leith Walk, a closure to northbound traffic between Picardy Place and Annandale Street is currently in place for three weeks.
On the Trams to Newhaven website, it says: "On 2 October 2022 there will be changes to the traffic management arrangements on the northbound section of Leith Walk between Antigua Street and Annandale Street to allow final surfacing works.

"This will involve a full northbound road closure for approximately three weeks from the Picardy Place turnback to Annandale Street. The Picardy Place turnback will remain operational throughout the duration of these works."
With traffic building in the area on Sunday, October 2, as a result of the closure and subsequent diversions, one motorist said that queued for an hour and a half to move the length of York Place, saying that traffic lights were changing green to red, but there was no movement at all.
Speaking anonymously, they said: "It was absolutely ridiculous. We knew from a while back something wasn’t normal because the lights were changing from red to green four times and nothing was moving. In total we were on York Place for over an hour and a half. When we got closer we realised they had shut Leith Street / Antigua street for three weeks so all the cars were having to go back up towards princes street.
"It was a total nightmare and that was late on a Sunday afternoon during the week and rush hour will be chaos. It’s like they don’t think about other roadworks in the city before closing major roads, this is the main route into Leith because north bridge is shut and they have just closed it for three weeks. What are we supposed to do now.
"There’s real concern for how emergency services are supposed to navigate the city at the moment too. There isn’t a chance they would’ve been able to get through today and who knows what tourists think when they come to the capital of Scotland and everywhere they go are roadworks and traffic."
The motorist shared a picture that a passenger has taken of the traffic at a complete standstill approaching the end of Picardy Place around 5pm on Sunday, October 2.
