Edinburgh Met Office yellow weather warning put in place as temperatures drop

Following the plummeting temperatures Scotland has experienced this week, a weather warning will be live first thing on Friday, December 16.

The Met Office has put in place a yellow warning for snow and ice that will impact Edinburgh and the surrounding areas from 6am to 11.59pm tomorrow.

All local council areas in Edinburgh and the Lothians are affected by the warning, with the Scottish Borders and Fife also included.

Outbreaks of snow and icy surfaces are predicted to bring some disruption to travel across the city and some roads and railways are likely to be affected, with longer journey times predicted when travelling.

The public is also warned that they are more at risk of some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces and to be aware of some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.

There is also a slight chance that power cuts will occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage.
