An Edinburgh mum has slammed McDonald's after staff members messed up an order intended for her type 1 diabetic daughter, but said 'it wasn't their problem' when she phoned to complain.
The parent told how her seven-year-old lost has been struggling to eat and feeling down recently due to being unwell, so decided to cheer her up with a rare McDonald's from the Cameron Toll restaurant on Tuesday, October 11.
In order to have the treat, she administered insulin to her daughter but was left disappointed when the delivery arrived with just two small portions of chips instead of the kid's happy meal and other food, reports EdinburghLive.
However things went from bad to worse after the mum called to raise the issue with the local food chain, only to be told 'it's not our problem' by a worker.
The mum said: "We offered my daughter a McDonald's and she was delighted as she loves the chicken nuggets. It was so lovely to see her get excited about eating as she hasn’t been that excited over the past few days.
"We waited about 30 minutes for the order which was great for our excited little girl. Lo and behold, when the meal arrived, there were no chicken nuggets in her box, only two small fries. She was devastated.
"My whole stomach sunk. I felt so bad for her but the thing that got me the most was I had already administered her insulin for the time she was eating. To cover her meal, she had to have the right amount of insulin so it completely threw things off.
"As I don’t drive, I phoned the restaurant to be told by the on duty manager that she doesn’t know what to tell me, she can only apologise and it’s not their problem.
"They didn’t know my daughter was a type 1 diabetic who has to have insulin. I am completely and utterly sickened by this whole ordeal. No remorse or responsibility has been taken at all."
She continued: "How can it be so hard to read an order off a screen and put it in a bag correctly? Yes it’s frustrating at the best of times when items are wrong or missing but when it’s for a sick child and they have absolutely no care in the world, that is just disgusting.
"I just wanted to bring some sort of awareness to the situation as they seemed not to really care and as a restaurant, food standards should be held seriously. They seemed to not care in the slightest."
McDonald's say they are now investigating the incident. A spokeswoman said: “We are very sorry to hear about this customer’s experience. We take order accuracy very seriously and have a number of procedures in place to avoid inaccurate orders.
"We are disappointed that we fell short of these on this occasion. We can confirm the customer has been refunded by Just Eat."
