Edinburgh man chases off thief who stole bottle of vodka he just got on holiday

An Edinburgh man has issued a warning to the community of Corstorphine after scaring off an intruder in his Saughton Mains Park home.

The man in a light grey tracksuit, described as being around 6ft tall and having short grey hair, has been seen in the resident's hall with a bottle of vodka the homeowner has just brought from his trip.

The shocked resident has warned his neighbours of the intruder, who was also seen trying other doors in the area. The man said: "I was just back from my holiday late, so I went to bed for a few hours.

"Then I heard a noise and shouted asking who that was. The next thing I heard was someone running, so I jumped out of bed and saw a man. He was pointing to the door and had a bottle of vodka that I bought at a duty-free in his hand."

The incident happened on May 10 and was reported to the police. A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We were called around 7.20pm on Tuesday, May 10, to a report of a theft of a bottle of alcohol from a property in the Saughton Mains Park area of Edinburgh. Enquiries are ongoing."
