Edinburgh man assaulted in broad daylight as police release CCTV footage

An Edinburgh man sustained a substantial facial injury after being assaulted in the city centre.

Police in the capital have now released CCTV images as part of a witness appeal following the incident, which took place on South St Andrew Street.

Taking place at around 8pm on Friday, August 6, 2021, the 36-year-old man was assaulted, however he did not go on to require hospital treatment.

This week, officers released CCTV images of a man they wish to speak to in connection with the incident, and have urged anyone with information to contact 101.

The man pictured is described as white, aged 25-30 and had facial hair.

Detective Constable Moran, of Gayfield CID, said: “The victim was subjected to an attack which left him with a facial injury. I would urge anyone with information relating to the man in the CCTV images to contact police as soon as possible.”

Members of the public can contact Police Scotland via 101, quoting reference number 3319 of 6 August, 2021, or if they wish to remain anonymous, they can call the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
