Edinburgh Love It or List It viewers astonished after couple left in limbo

Edinburgh Love It or List It buyers have left viewers gobsmacked after being left in limbo over the decision to sell their dreamy farmhouse on the outskirts of Edinburgh or to move to a bigger property.

In the show, Kirstie Allsopp and Phil Spencer help people make the decision to either spruce up or sell. Homes are one of the most important investments people will make but no one can predict what the future holds.

The show was filmed in May 2021 in Lothianburn and looks to help Heather and Tim who live in a detached four-bedroom home which is all on one floor and has issues with leaking and rot.

Investment manager Heather wants to stay in the property while her insurance broker husband Tim wants to list it and move to the Borders.

The couple live in the seven-acre home with their ten-month-old daughter Gracie and met in 2016 when they bonded on a love of horses before embarking on a long-distance relationship.

Finally, in 2018, Tim decided Heather was for him and moved up to Scotland from his Yorkshire home and moved in with Heather in her Lothianburn house which she purchased alone four years before.

Heather and Tim had a difficult decision to make but luckily Kirsty and Phil were on hand to help.

Phil had a list it budget of one million but with £100,000 of added costs including tax, transportation and land fees and had three properties in the Borders to offer.

While Kirsty had a love it budget of £70,000 to renovate the property and solve any problems stopping the couple from loving their original home.

First Phil presented an 18th-century farmhouse just outside of Heiton with its own paddocks and huge party barn on site looking for offers over £950,000.

The second property he showed was a six-bedroom detached home in Kelso with 11 acres of land for £825,000 which was highly sought after with 20 offers already put in on the property.

The final offering was a huge home in the process of being constructed in Jedburgh.

Kirsty planned to use the budget of £70,000 to carry out renovations to make the house their forever home. She opted to put a couple of bedrooms upstairs with a bathroom looking out onto the view.

She also wanted to knock down some walls downstairs to rearrange the dining room and kitchen set-up, put in a laundry room and turn Gracie's bedroom into an office.

A twist came in the episode when the couple faced a dilemma when there were plans lodged to construct a road across the green belt behind the house which would increase noise and ruin the agricultural land.

They then cut the budget to £30,000 to just focus on their priorities which include the bathrooms to make the house more sellable in the long run.

In a huge U-turn, the couple decided to list it, confirming they had actually already found their own property and would be selling the Edinburgh home.

They found a property with 15 acres of land in the ideal location and completed the bathroom renovations before selling up. The couple is now looking forward to moving into the new home.

Social media users were mixed on what decision the couple should take.

One social media user said: "I'm thinking you should put an office ensuite in the bedroom."

Another said: "Homeowners looking at renovating a farm or buying elsewhere. Three months in and they've been told a road widening project will likely go through their farmland so now not sure if to just leave and not do much to their farm other than enough to sell it."

While another joked: "Wife has Love It Or List It on and I'm actually enjoying it. Definitely getting middle-aged. Also wish I was rich enough to afford these houses."
