Police Scotland later confirmed that the 'raid' was part of an ongoing investigation and that no arrests were made on Monday morning.
The door has now been boarded up and the owner has been made aware of the incident.
Speaking to Edinburgh Live a concerned neighbour said: "All I can tell you is that at 10am about half a dozen helmeted cops in body armour screamed 'POLICE!' and then smashed the door down with a ram.
"The flat's been empty at least a week, there was a 17-year-old teenager renting it from the owner.
"He was her first proper tenant, previously it's been a short term let which was sometimes problematical.
"The 17-year-old vanished a week or so ago. He was very quiet indoors but the place was constantly visited by other teenagers, who clearly had the door key and would be there even when he wasn't.
"The curtains were always closed. I was p***** off that he left without returning the built-in-shed key I lent him, to put his bike away, as now I have to take the door off to replace the lock. But that's my only annoyance at him."

The resident continued: "He was much quieter overall than STL visitors. I only found out he definitely wasn't there anymore when, the landlady's manager, was cleaning the flat out late last week and she confirmed it.
"Apparently the cops told them they were looking for a friend of the resident and had information he was at this address.
"This apparently justified the heavy mob and destroying the door whereas if they'd hopped the gate and looked in the french windows they'd have seen the place was empty."
A Police Scotland spokesperson confirmed that the police activity this morning is related to an ongoing investigation.
They also said no arrests were made and enquiries are continuing.
