Edinburgh LNER passengers face major disruption until end of the day due to fault

Edinburgh rail passengers are set to be hit with delays and cancellations until the end of the day due to damaged overhead wires on a major route.

LNER have advised passengers to avoid travelling between London and Edinburgh due to the issue on the line between Peterborough and Stevenage, which they say is expected to cause major disruption until the end of the day (Tuesday).

The issue is expected to effect all routes from London to Edinburgh and vice versa, with LUMO passengers travelling on the same route also facing disruption.

On their website, LNER said: "Due to the severity of today's disruption LNER are advising customer's Not To Travel between London Kings Cross and Peterborough and asking customers not to go to the station.

"For services north of Peterborough we will operate a very limited service however this will be subject to disruption and short notice cancellations. Customer who wish to defer their travel can use their ticket at no extra cost on Thursday 28th and Friday 29th July, please note it is not possible to use your tickets tomorrow due to a reduced timetable in operation as a result of industrial action.

"If you are unable to defer your journey, LNER have arrangements in place to assist you to complete your journey. Damage to the overhead electric wires between Peterborough and Stevenage means all lines are currently blocked."

They added that ticket acceptance has been put in place for several other rail operators to accept LNER's pre-paid service, with Avanti West Coast, CrossCountry and ScotRail routes to Edinburgh all included.

One passengers travelling between London and Edinburgh said they had been stationary for two hours, while another said they are desperate to return to the capital for a flight at Edinburgh Airport following their family member's sudden passing.
