Edinburgh libraries calling for local musicians to mark an unforgettable Make Music Day

Make Music Day, which started 40 years back in France, will once again be held in person this year, after two years of online events forced by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Celebrated on June 21, the world-famous day will see libraries across Edinburgh transformed into live performing concert halls, and the organisers are now looking for gifted locals to make the comeback of the event an unforgettable one.

The date, which coincides with the summer solstice and is usually the longest day of the year, will be celebrated with the music playing from the early morning till the evening and people enjoying and appreciating it.

Musicians, groups, ensembles, choirs, and orchestras who are keen to perform on that day can get in touch via phone at 0131 242 8050 or over email: central.music.library@edinburgh.gov.uk.

In 2019, Central, Morningside, Craigmillar and Stockbridge Libraries hosted successful performances. The event saw various groups performing - from Opera to Klezmer and recorder solo's to the Rolling Hills Chorus.

Unfortunately, in 2020 and 2021, the celebrations were forced online with a curtailed but no less exciting program of events with choirs, instrumentalists and the Libraries staff singing the Make Music Day anthems Bring Me Sunshine and Stand By Me.
