Edinburgh LGBT community can 'connect' in safe space with games and crafts event

An Edinburgh LGBTQIA+ organisation are holding a social event later this week, encouraging those within the community to come together and meet new people.

LGBT Health and Wellbeing, a Scottish organisation, are hosting the event alongside several other activities and meetings to encourage inclusivity and to provide a safe space for members of the LGBT community to share interests and connect with one and other.

The event will be held at the team's Edinburgh HQ at Duncan Place on Sunday, March 27, from 2pm-4:30pm, presented as a 'Crafts, Games and Treasure Share'.

Advertising it on their website, they added that the event will be a "relaxed social opportunity to come together in person, share interests and connect with others at our own pace in a friendly, welcoming setting."

They added: "Come along to our Edinburgh HQ at Duncan Place, for a chance to meet others in a relaxed social setting, share interests and hobbies, and enjoy getting used to connecting with others in person again."

The event will consist of a quiet space for crafting, board games, chatting or just connecting generally with others within the LGBT community.

There is also an optional picnic blanket art project to work on together, decorating one of 32 pieces of canvas that will be brought together to represent stories of Leith - to be displayed at Duncan Place. Badge-making is also on the itinerary and light refreshments will also be served during the event.

Including a section on who is welcome to attend, the organisation added: "Anyone from the LGBTQIA+ community based in or visiting Edinburgh is welcome to join us. We welcome the entire diversity of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community including non-binary, queer, intersex, asexual people, and all identities under the LGBTQIA+ umbrella.

"This includes those who are questioning or exploring their sexual orientation or gender identity."

The team also noted that as spaces are limited, those interested in attending will have to register as the capacity is only 40 people to ensure social distancing can be maintained.

This joins the series of workshops organised by the team to help trans and non-binary people in Edinburgh find work, an event that has proved extremely popular. LGBT Health and Wellbeing run these online events to help job-hunting become a less "anxious" process.
