Edinburgh kids eat for free or for £1 in supermarket cafes this February half-term

While the February half-term holiday can be a great excuse to have a break from the cooking and spend time with the kids, it can also rack up to be an expensive time.

Those parents who have bagged time off to spend with their children may be searching for ways to eat out, but keep the costs down. The cost of living crisis has hit us all hard, with prices rising for everything, from energy bills to a weekly shop.

But there is a solution to this problem - plenty of supermarket cafes are offering cheap deals where kids can either eat for free, or for very little. Edinburgh Live has rounded up all of these super deals and listed them below for easy access.

Asda

Asda have launched a new initiative that will see the supermarket serve thousands of free warm breakfasts to children this February half-term.

This scheme is to combat hunger amid the cost of living crisis, so kids will be offered a free bowl of porridge, in partnership with Quaker Oats.

The deal will be served between 8am to 12pm everyday from February 9 to February 22 at every Asda cafe across the UK - and there is no minimum adult spend required.

Asda also have a promotion on where kids eat for £1 all day, everyday. This deal is valid for children under 16 years. Each child is entitled to a meal when they spend £1, with a Maximum of one meal from the kids menu per child, per day.

This will be available until March 18, 2023. You can also get a free Ella's baby food pouches, meant for children under 18 months old, with any purchase.

Morrisons

In Morrisons cafes, kids eat free all day every day, when you buy an adult meal for £4.49 or over. Alongside this, Morrisons has cut the prices of many of their meals, so adults can eat for less too.

From Fish & Chips, now £6.99, to a Bacon Sandwich, now £2.99, adults can also enjoy savings from Morrisons brand new menu.

Kids can choose from fish fingers and chips, bangers and mash, macaroni cheese and chicken nuggets in the expansive children's menu. Breakfast is also available, which includes boiled egg and toast, a full fry-up and good old beans on toast.

Sainsbury's

Sainsbury's also run a special offer for children, where they eat for £1 if an adult purchases a hot main meal from £5.20 in their supermarket café.

Options for the kids include fish fingers, chicken nuggets, pizza and sausages, with a choice of three sides. These sides are varied, from peas and broccoli, to mashed potatoes and baked beans. Kids meals also come with a drink and a piece of fruit.

IKEA

IKEA has arguably the cheapest deal for kids eating out this half-term. Little ones can enjoy a tomato pasta and a soft drink for just 95 pence, or any other Kids Meal for just £1.50.

This is available everyday from 11am in all restaurants, with adults also getting in on the act. IKEA-goers can enjoy a breakfast roll and any hot drink in the restaurant for 95 pence, from 9:30am until 11:30am.

IKEA is well known for having cheap main meals for adults too, with pies, potatoes, peas and gravy for just £6.95.
