An Edinburgh hospital worker who was injured by a violent patient in an accident and emergency department has lost a £91,000 damages claim against the Chief Constable of Police Scotland.
Beverly Gilchrist was hit on the stomach and hand when the man, who was under the influence of drink and drugs, kicked out. He had been brought to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary in an ambulance handcuffed by police constables with a chest injury.
She sustained a soft tissue injury to her left hand and developed symptoms of post traumatic stress disorder. She had helped look after her grandson prior to the incident on August 3 in 2019 but felt unable to do so afterwards and suffered anxiety and intrusive thoughts.
