A helicopter was spotted circling Edinburgh's Arthur's Seat during the early hours with its spotlight focussing on the crags.
Locals in the area were awoken by the sound of the unknown aircraft around 12.30am on Monday, June 5, and took to social media after the helicopter seemingly circled the beauty spot for half an hour.
The beam of the search light could be seen from quite a distance, with one user on Twitter saying it travelled from Glasgow before searching the area. It is currently unknown if the helicopter was under the care of Police Scotland.

However, it did appear to be searching the area for someone. One concerned user said: "Sounds like a lot of helicopter action over Edinburgh for this time of night?"
They then saw the action unfolding out of their window, and added: "Oh as I thought it might be- looks like search and rescue up Arthur’s Seat way. Hope everyone’s okay! It’s still going and it’s so loud despite being so far off. Hope whoever is missing is found!"
Another eyewitness commented: "Search helicopter circling Arthur seat area? I can see the search light aiming definitely around Arthur seat area."
Footage captured by one local nearby shows the helicopter searching the area around Arthur's Seat using its spotlight during the early hours. It is currently unknown what the nature of the incident was, but Police Scotland has been approached for comment.
