Edinburgh Hearts fans to join minute's applause as tribute to Andrew MacKinnon

The family of 15-year-old Andrew MacKinnon who passed away last month have asked Hearts fans at his beloved Tynecastle to join a minute's applause during their home game on Saturday.

Hearts take on St Mirren at Tynecastle on Saturday at 3pm and when the game enters the 15th minute, a round of applause will echo around the stadium as a mark of respect following the devastating death of Andrew.

The teenage footballing fanatic sadly collapsed after playing the sport he loved near Forrester High School on March 14. Despite extensive efforts from paramedics, they could not save the teenager.

Since Andrew's death, tributes from friends and family have poured in to the promising young footballer. Andrew's funeral took place on March 31, with the road outside Tynecastle awash with family and friends, as well as Hearts supporters as they said one final goodbye.

Andrew's parents and family friends have arranged another special tribute during the game on Saturday afternoon, with supporters being urged to spread the word before the 3pm kick off.

A message on Twitter from one supporter read: "As Saturday is our first home game since Andy MacKinnon passed, the family are asking for a minutes applause on the 15th minute. @GorgieUltras will have a banner prepared for Lower N pre-match."

Andrew's dad, also called Andrew, replied to the tweet confirming he and other family members will be present in the directors box during the game following a kind gesture from the Gorgie club.

Speaking to Edinburgh Live following the death of his son, dad Andrew said: "He was a really popular wee boy and a massive Hearts fan. He had so many friends and just loved his friends, family and football.

"He really was such a lovely wee boy and really loved his football. He died doing the thing he loved most and we are all heartbroken."
