A vintage ghost sign was spotted in the city that dates back to a bygone era.
Nestled on Dalry Road In Edinburgh, one local spotted two old shop signs above a building. 258-259 Dalry Road have been used as office spaces but before they were kitted out and modernised, the ghost signs reveal they were home to a bicycle shop and a store for stationery.
With a black background and gold-coloured lettering, the bicycle shop used to be known as J.R Ross Cycle Dealer.

Locals could hire a bike from him, as Malcolm Cant writes in Old Dalry. Opened in the 1940s by James R Ross, people could hire a bike at 3d an hour. The author also noted that this was often extended if business was slow or if the customer was a local.
Ross would also repair, sell and buy bicycles and accessories. Next door the sign reveals that books, stationery, and toys were sold at number 258.
Many signs are rediscovered around Edinburgh as the buildings undergo refurbishment and elements of their past life come to the surface.
The ghost signs on Dalry Road are clear and some locals may still remember getting a bicycle from J.R Ross.
