Box office services and catering facilities around Bristo Square - one of the central hubs of the Edinburgh Fringe - were temporarily unavailable, with some food trucks posting messages announcing that they could not serve food.
The infamous Underbelly purple cow - an iconic image from the festival - was deflated as a result of the power cut.
Festivalgoers reported using phone torches to light up venues, including for award-winning comedian Olaf Falafel.
