Edinburgh Fringe 'LA tourist' sketch leaves locals in 'stitches'

The Edinburgh Fringe is the world's largest arts festival with thousands of performances taking place annually.

After it's covid-related cancellation in 2020 and the pandemic having a significant impact on last year's event, for the first time in two years the Festival is well and truly back in just a matter of hours.

The Fringe kicks off on Friday (August 5) with the final day being held on August 29 (Monday), meaning there's over three weeks of performances and events for Edinburgh locals - and its visitors - to enjoy.

And it seems one visitor is keen to start their trip soaking up all the Scottish ways as they arrive for the Fringe. Taking to TikTok, Christopher Hall - or @chrxstopherhall on the social media app who will be performing at the event - has uploaded a video of him pretending to be a tourist from across the pond captioning his video "pov LA man arrives in Edinburgh."

The POV, or point of view, videos are popular on TikTok with them racking up millions of views. In this recently uploaded video, he pretends to be a stereotypical tourist calling the capital "magical" - though we can't blame them there.

In his best LA accent, making it obvious he's a tourist, he says: "There's a castle. I think wizards used to live there. There's cute little witchy houses. There's like a ton of history."

On the topic of the capital's architecture and the weather, a common conversation starter in Scotland, he says: "It's windy, right? It's kind of like San Francisco. I think most of it is older than LA.

"I think this is the castle. Oh no, it's H&M."

"Is this the town in Shrek? It's like the town in Shrek. Let's go get some Haggis. Haggis is like a breakfast thing. Haggis is what? Oh my god no."

And of course when people come here, their minds often go to Harry Potter with him adding: "I think this is where Harry Potter grew up. We will see him. We can probably go to the castle, I think that's where everyone hangs out. It's like a social area."

And if you want to annoy the locals, these next lines sure would do it with the comedian adding: "I love it here. I love it here in Edinburgh. What part of England is Edinburgh in?". And to top it off he pronounced the capital's wrong - many times.

After watching the video, hundreds of people jumped to the comments - and they did not disappoint.

One said: "You should have said do you reckon haggis is vegan?" with another adding: "The EdinBORO got me."

Another joked: "I was not prepared for your accent to be so good"

"I worked at the Fringe for three years and can confirm this is LEGIT." commented a fourth.
